7 AAC 52.135. Training of youth counselors

(a) Each youth counselor shall undertake 120 hours of training during the first year of employment and an additional 40 hours each subsequent year of employment. The training shall be provided by the division in the subjects listed in (b) of this section.

(b) The subjects of the required training are as follows:

(1) security procedures;

(2) supervision of juveniles;

(3) signs of suicide risks, and suicide prevention;

(4) medication distribution and pharmacology effects;

(5) restraint techniques, use-of-force regulations, and tactics;

(6) report writing;

(7) department regulations;

(8) rights and responsibilities of juveniles;

(9) fire and emergency procedures;

(10) safety procedures;

(11) key control;

(12) interpersonal relations;

(13) social/cultural lifestyles of the juvenile population;

(14) communication skills;

(15) first aid, including cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);

(16) counseling techniques.
